Wow, they published me again.

Ironically enough, my article on sacrificing spam was published by Rending the Veil on the same day that I started using the sinokorean firewall antispam rules on Lain. Go figure.

Hm… I hate to say it, but I don’t think sacrifice works that way. Or, rather, it does – but not to the effect you’re intending. The word "sacrifice" literally means "to make sacred". The basic meme in almost all cultures is that by destroying N on this world, it is transported to the world of the gods.
The prerequisite of this being that the gods desire N be sent to them. In celtic mythology, this meant sacrificing things and persons of particular value – the latter being denoted with torques. In sacrificing people of less value, they found it necessary to aggregate them with the use of a wicker man. In Aztec, as with Celtic, they made up for lack of value by massive quantity.
The Greeks and Romans were more interesting, sacrificing the bones, viscera, and fat of their livestock while retaining the meat for mortal use. This, however, was explained by a myth involving Prometheus tricking Zeus into selecting the less valuable parts.

Basically, whatever N is sacrificed, it should be something of value or desirable to the gods, for whatever reason. To render sacred offal, refuse, or spam risks incurring the anger of the gods – you are, in essence, spamming them!

I’m working from the standpoint of Polynesian mysticism, in which mana, the raw stuff of creation, is solidified into structures. By destroying the structure, you get at that mana. The gods don’t get that mana unless it’s dedicated to them, which I don’t do during the process (because you can’t dedicate what you don’t have yet).

That does explain one or two things going on lately, though.
