Now this is some hardcore Max Headroom-type stuff, here.

Yes, folks, there are televisions bolted to the tops of gas pumps in LA, or at least at the gas stations that my cow-orkers and I visited during our time on the west coast. They're all tuned to local news stations or CNN so that you can keep an eye on your stock prices or the traffic situation in LA while you're gassing up.

I was half-expecting to see a women pushing a baby carriage with a television in it down the sidewalk whilst pumping fuel.

The chevron by my house has these now, I thought they were more than annoying.

You know, there are days I want to detach a little… and although out here in the Midwest, the little LCD on the pump is all I get to look, I often ignore it because it’s trying to sell me overpriced stuff all the time… forever trying to coax me into the store…. I would think the last thing I would want is a full-blown TV to look at whilst refueling… there are enough blowing up in this world as it is :-) I’m sure what ever they pipe out to you on those tubes has got to be well-funded by the oil companies… food for thought.
